Healing through Humour as GodwinJP Hosts another Laughter-Packed Edition of Punchline Lagos

In a city constantly buzzing with activity, pressure, and pulse-raising deadlines, Punchline Lagos Comedy Club continues to offer a rare and powerful gift: laughter. On Sunday, humour lovers, professionals, creatives, and political figures gathered once again at CafeOne by Sterling Bank, Lagos, for another unforgettable edition hosted by the multi-talented GodwinJP.

The night brought together an impressive array of guests, including Pastor Dayo Ekong, the Lagos State Chairman of the Labour Party, and Engr. Supo Ajayi, the Deputy Chairman. It was an evening of unfiltered humour, hearty laughter, and wholesome networking. Punchline Lagos Comedy Club has been on a mission to use comedy as a tool for unity, healing, and connection in a society where mental wellness is becoming increasingly critical.
Over the years, it has evolved into more than just a comedy event, it is now a safe haven where people gather to breathe, reflect, release tension, and share in communal joy. For professionals facing workplace burnout, creatives stuck in performance loops, and young Lagosians searching for meaning amid chaos, the platform provides a much-needed space to unwind and simply be.
“I have always said, that the power of humour lies in its ability to connect hearts, cut across backgrounds, and offer momentary freedom. That’s what we’re building here, a space that reminds you that you’re not alone, and it’s okay to laugh through the madness,” says GodwinJP, the host and creative brain behind the initiative.
Beyond entertainment, the platform has also become a springboard for emerging talents. One such voice is comedian Covenant Umana, who credits the platform for kickstarting his stand-up journey. “Punchline Lagos was the very first stage that gave me the courage to hold a mic and tell my truth through humour. I’m growing as a performer because of the opportunities and feedback I’ve received here. Thanks to the organiser, JP” – Covenant Umana.
The next edition holds on August 31, 2025, at CafeOne, Yaba and it comes with an exciting twist: An Open Mic Session! This edition invites upcoming comedians to showcase their talent, with cash prizes and special gifts up for grabs. It promises to be electric, interactive, and absolutely hilarious.
Even more anticipated is the Independence Edition scheduled for October 26, 2025, at The British Council, Ikoyi. This special celebration will not only mark Nigeria’s independence but also spotlight the role of comedy in preserving national spirit and emotional resilience.
As stress, societal pressure, and digital burnout become everyday struggles, Punchline Lagos Comedy Club provides a refreshing antidote, a space to laugh freely, connect deeply, and rediscover the joy of simply being human.
Punchline Lagos Comedy Club is founded and curated by Godwin Okhawere, fondly called GodwinJP. It is a bi-monthly live comedy experience that fuses humour, networking, and mental wellness. It creates a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where emerging and established comedians can share their talent while helping audiences destress, laugh, and live better.
