...Professor Robert Gallo, Globally Acclaimed Co-Discoverer of HIV expected to grace the occasion among other dignitaries
The Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) has announced it will officially launch the IHVN Nigeria Campus- International Research Center of Excellence (IRCE) on Tuesday 6 June 2023 in Abuja, FCT.
A leading nonprofit organization, The Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) , focuses on preventing, treating, and managing diseases like HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, and other infectious diseases in Nigeria. A cutting-edge facility that will aid in the fight against these diseases will soon be launched by IHVN.
The ground-breaking opening ceremony will take place at the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria Campus in Abuja, FCT and will be preceded by a scientific seminar that brings together key public-private stakeholders in the health sector with Professor Robert Gallo and Professor Alash’le Abimiku, Executive Director, IRCE as the main speakers.
The new building is a top-notch research and diagnostic facility that will support identifying and managing infectious diseases. IHVN will be able to conduct cutting-edge research and offer precise diagnoses because of the facility’s cutting-edge equipment, which includes high-throughput sequencing and advanced molecular diagnostics.
Speaking about the development, the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Human Virology of Nigeria Dr. Patrick Dakum, said: “The International Research Centre of Excellence (IRCE) is one of three IHVN centres established with the aim of enhancing early investigators’ participation in clinical trials and other research relevant to Nigeria’s health sector through training and mentorship opportunities.”
“IHVN International Research Center is committed to the mission of providing quality health service implementation, building the capacity of health care workers, and ensuring equitable access to individuals and communities,” Dr. Dakum remarked.
With the launch of this facility, researchers will be able to deal with highly pathogenic materials in a secure setting thanks to the centre’s biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) facilities. The facility also contains a bio-repository, which will give biological samples a safe place to be kept and make them available to researchers for use in later research.
The opening of the new IHVN facility is anticipated to revolutionize the fight against infectious illnesses in Nigeria and throughout Africa. IHVN will be better able to conduct ground-breaking research, provide novel diagnostic tools, and offer patients improved treatment options thanks to this facility.
